Introduction #
Welcome to the world of Legere! This is a worldbuilding project started by Walter M. Smith, Jesse Burnett, Michael Daffern, and Caleb Vincent. The first pieces of Legere's world were assembled in October of 2012, albeit in a fragmented and nonsensical manner. As time progressed, the authors found an increasing desire to transform their childhood make-believe world into a cohesive, living world filled with rich lore, fascinating characters, and powerful stories.
You're here probably because one of the authors has decided to share this world with you because they think you would enjoy our work. Legere is an expansive project, with literal years of worldbuilding and stories making up the fabric of its reality. This article serves as a primer and introduction for you, as many potential fans of Legere often find themselves at a loss of where to begin.
The mind map of every article of the Legere worldbuilding project as of September 17, 2025. Each dot is an article (size of dot is relative to word count of the article), and each line indicates that the article is linked to another.
The website largely functions like a wiki. Links to other articles can be found within each page--click on anything you find interesting!
We hope you enjoy reading about Legere and come to cherish it as we do. We've delighted in the process of creating it.
A Note on Artificial Intelligence
As authors, we take pride in our ability to craft stories ourselves. We do not use or condone the usage of AI to write things for us. You will not find anything on this website written by AI. We believe that as writers, we need to hone our skills by using them ourselves--even if that means failing in our craft.
However, we are not artists. You may find images generated by AI, which we use as placeholders and concept art (also images serve as an effective way to break up dense text). Legere is not in a stage where we are willing to hire concept artists to mass-produce images for it. Our ultimate goal is indeed to hire skilled, passionate artists to illustrate this beautiful world in the way we want.
Website in Development!
As you explore this website, you may find some pages blank (unfinished), as well as some broken links or strangely-formatted text. Please forgive us! Legere's knowledge is stored in a database accessed through the Obsidian Docs platform. We then transfer the markdown of Obsidian into html that the site displays. However, the website has been coded from the ground up, so there are still improvements to be made. Please excuse these for the time being!
Generally Speaking, What is Legere? #
Legere (pronounced leg-air) is a magical fantasy world that takes place on a planet covered by medieval societies that are on the verge of rapid change. Globalization and the spread of new technology brought on by the Demon Wars and Ancient Wars force the people of Legere to grapple with change, and the inevitable evils that arise alongside new power.
Location #
Much of the stories on Legere take place on the central continent of Hohm. Hohm is a breathtaking landscape, as varied as the people and storied from there. To the north are the Phayu Wing Mountains, and its bottom edge is lined with the sprawling Kaktis Desert.
To Learn more about the actual planet of Legere, you can read more here.
Tone #
Legere is so diverse in all dimensions that it encompasses a vast array of different genres and tones. Certain parts of Legere struggle in a post-apocalyptic environment, squabbling over resources and fighting of horrid mutants. Other parts of Legere are more classic fantasy, with nobles, knights, political intrigue, and monster hunting.
Key History #
Legere has an extensive history, but here are the main events that you should know about as you begin to explore:
-
The Mundane War #
- The Mundane War was an ancient conflict that helped shape much of Legere. In summary, it involved a belligerent kingdom that utilized the fear of magic and magic wielders to mobilize its citizens into extreme nationalism. While this kingdom--named Sandar--was defeated, the repercussions of this conflict can still be felt through the rest of Legerian history.
-
Demon Wars #
- The Demon Wars were a series of brutal conflicts that forever transformed the landscape of Legere. This event was so impactful that the start is used as a separation point for the historical timeline.[^1]
-
Ancient Wars #
- The Ancient Wars were an uprising of the mortal people of Legere against the robotic guardians that protected the world from Evil. While the Ancient Wars do not have a massive direct impact on Legere, its events serve as the seeds for many other things that occur further along the timeline.
Themes #
I enjoy stories just as much as anyone else. I've got a real eye for the classics... but I also love reading new ones. Hmm... say, this chronicle about the Heroes of Nokkville is pretty comprehensive. I might start reading this one.

We, the authors of Legere, are indeed religious. We intend to use Legere as a platform to tell stories that morally align with our values. Primarily, the stories of Legere are on the topic of perseverance of the righteous and overcoming evil.
Kenn-eyed readers will see both subtle and obvious biblical parallels in the worldbuilding of Legere and the multiverse that surround it: there is a Creator God, His angelic servants, and an adversary who has fallen from grace and now seeks to corrupt what the Creator has made good. Legere's stories hinge on heroes' abilities to oppose evil--both within and without.
Magic #
Legere is a magical world with hundreds of different types of magic. The people of Legere call these arcane paths. Each arcane path is similar to a superpower, containing its own rules and limitations. This allows us to create stories with unique characters not defined only by their personalities and appearances, but also their metaphysical abilities.
Magic and God?
In some media, magic is seen or interpreted as something evil and opposite to the divine. In Legere, magic is divine. Each type of magic is simply a tiny fragment of the powers that The Creator wields, gifted to the mortal people of Legere to use for good.
Just like anything, some people choose to use these gifts selfishly or selflessly.
So What's the "Main Story"? #
Sometimes I feel like I'm just a side character in someone else's story...

While Legere is chock-full of stories with different characters, the central figures of heroism are the Archangel's Heroes. These are people of Legere who were divinely elected--at random, it seemed--to dedicate their lives to the eternal struggle against evil. Their stories are ones of struggle and conflict, focusing on their ability to form the bonds of friendship and journey together towards a brighter future.
As of writing this, the Archangel's Heroes have little to no direct information on this website. This is because the saga of the Archangel's Heroes is something that we want to have published in books or other media.
What Should I Read About? #
Books... weird concept. Uh, no. I don't think my people had books. Don't get me wrong, I think they're neat!
